Massive thanks to Ngā iwi o Te Tau Ihu o Te Waka-a-Māui for their blessing of the site on Wednesday the 14th. It was an early start with dubious threatening rain but it stayed away and we managed to complete the blessing and celebrate as a group over a cup of tea and some breakfast snacks.

Another year rolls around with the hosting of our annual AGM. This is an important day in the calendar when we celebrate our successes and set the direction for the year ahead. It is also where all officers resign and new ones are elected.

We’re excited to announce the launch of the Nelson Surf Life Saving Community Group Fund, established with Top of the South Community Foundation (TSCF). The fund is dedicated to keeping our coastlines safe and equipping the next generation with the skills they need to thrive.

We would like to extend a big thanks to pub charity for their most recent donation. Pub Charity have been amazing over the years with numerous donations.

A massive thanks to Air Rescue Services for their generous donation in support of our new clubhouse.

A reminder to all to lock-in the date for the Tasman Pool Rescue Event in Greymouth. This is set for Saturday the 15th August which is approaching fast! Make sure you have your accommodation locked in and have confirmed your attendance with Ben Clark (Sports Officer).

The Tasman Lifeguard Development weekend is scheduled to take place on the weekend of 17-18th October at Rārangi Surf Life Saving Club in Whites Bay.

This is open to all existing Surf Life Guards and Patrol Support members - whether you are 14 or 65, brand new to Surf, or a seasoned veteran, there is something for everyone!

The Nelson Surf Life Saving Club has been granted resource consent for its new clubhouse at Tāhunanui, allowing the project to move ahead.

What an incredible three days at the IRB Nationals in Gisborne for our Nelson Surf Life Saving club! 🌊💪

With 30 clubs competing from across Aotearoa, including two of the top teams from Australia, the competition was fierce—but our incredible wahine toa showed grit, determination, and strength every time they hit the water. As a smaller club, we are so proud to have punched well above our weight, finishing 8th overall on the points table 👏

Nelson Surf Lifesaving has brought to a close the 2026 season with their last beach patrol and Junior surf day.

What an amazing season it has been:

• Record levels of patrolling hours from our Lifeguards at Tahunanui Beach

• High numbers of new Surf Lifeguards being trained up

• Others up-skilling across all areas

• The SAR team excelling in all events

• Huge growth in our outstanding Junior Surf programme which is the lifeblood of our great club.

The Nelson IRB race team of Courtney, Britt, Pipi, Billie and Elouise made the massive journey to Warrington Beach, Otago to complete in the South Island IRB Champs. The team faced a big 1.5m rolling swell which created some interesting racing. The Open women’s team produced some technical surf racing and are coming home with a bronze medal in the single rescue event.
